Biltwell Handlebars, Risers & Grips for Harley-Davidson

Biltwell's handlebar, riser and grip shelf covers Harley-Davidson motorcycles from the 1970s through current Softails and Sportsters, and it is built overwhelmingly around a 1 inch bar. Anyone changing bars, risers or grips needs to know their own bike's bar diameter before ordering, because Biltwell sells 1 inch and 7/8 inch parts side by side under the same names.

This shelf covers Biltwell's bars, risers, grips and throttle hardware for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and it leans heavily one way: eighty-four of the hundred and four products here are built around a 1 inch (25.4mm) bar or riser, and only twenty are cut for a 7/8 inch (22mm) bar, fifteen of which are grip colourways rather than bars. The choice of 7/8 inch bars is narrow. Most of this shelf assumes a 1 inch bar.

Bars, risers and grips like these are for sale here, with free UK delivery available. Unlike the Biltwell helmets and clothing, which are listed at 10% off RRP, the bars, risers and grips on this page are priced against the UK distributor's list with no was-price shown.

Measure your bar before you order

Biltwell doesn't publish which stock Harley-Davidson models left the factory with a 1 inch bar and which came with 7/8 inch, and nothing else says so either. The reliable way to check is to measure the bar at the clamp, or read the Fitment section on the specific product: lines such as "74-25 H-D with 1" diameter grip area" or "82-24 H-D... excl. 88-11 Springers with 1" I.D. risers" name the years and families that part actually fits, and that is written per product, not for the shelf as a whole.

The bar lines

The 1 inch bar options on this shelf are the Tracker, cut in standard, Mid and High rises; the Moto, a dirt-bike-styled dual-height bar; the Keystone and Keystone XL; and the Tyson and Tyson XL, including a pullback version. Biltwell list seamless 4130 chromoly tube for most of them, and the Tracker and Moto are compatible with mechanical or throttle-by-wire control: the tube end comes with a removable plug that compensates for the shorter right-hand bar length needed for e-throttle. The throttle-by-wire Tracker Hi, Tracker Mid and Zero Drag all carry the same caution: without grips fitted they read 1-1/8 inch shorter than their listed length. On the Tracker Hi and Tracker Mid that's because the centre section runs 1-1/8 inch before tapering to 1 inch at the grip ends, so they need risers built for that section, not a standard 1 inch riser. The Zero Drag is Biltwell's dedicated throttle-by-wire bar: 1 inch OD, 4130 chromoly, with CNC-machined slots for internal cable routing and internal tube tapering on the right-hand bar to accept the module.

Murdock risers: two ranges, two different bar clamps

The Murdock riser is Biltwell's core 1 inch riser: the supplier's own text says it takes stock riser bolts through 1/2-13 threaded mounting holes spaced 3-1/2 inches apart to fit most H-D top triple trees, and the top clamp bolt pattern also takes stock Harley-Davidson speedo and tacho brackets. A pullback version moves the bar two inches closer to the rider. The O/S (Over Sized) Murdock is a different part, not just a bigger one: it clamps a 1-1/8 inch bar, not the standard 1 inch, and its mounting hardware is 5/16-18, not 1/2-13. The two are not interchangeable. Ordering the wrong one means a riser that either won't clamp the bar or won't take the bolts to hand.

Standard Murdock O/S (Over Sized) Murdock
Bar clamped 1 inch (25.4mm) 1-1/8 inch
Mounting hardware 1/2-13 thread, stock riser bolts 5/16-18 thread
Centres 3-1/2 inch 3-1/2 inch

TPV grips don't come with a throttle sleeve

The rubber grip sets Biltwell call TPV come in five tread patterns, Torker, Thruster, Renegade, Recoil and Kung Fu, in both 1 inch and 7/8 inch sizes. None of them include a throttle sleeve: the supplier's own note says a sleeve "is not included and must be re-used or purchased separately." The only sleeve stocked here is the 1 inch Whiskey Throttle Sleeve; there is no 7/8 inch sleeve on this shelf, so a 7/8 inch grip buyer needs to reuse their existing sleeve or source one elsewhere.

The Alumicore grip set is for throttle-by-wire Harleys, and Biltwell sell two different versions for two different stock bar-end specifications. The Fitment line on our own listing runs to a long list of exclusions, from several current Softail models to the 2021 to 2025 Pan America and Sportster/Nightster range. It is worth reading in full before ordering, since one Alumicore grip does not fit every throttle-by-wire Harley-Davidson.

Biltwell say the Whiskey Throttle needs a mechanic

Only the Whiskey Throttle assemblies carry an explicit fitting caution: Biltwell advise they should be installed by a qualified mechanic. Nothing else on this page, not the bars, the risers or the grips, comes with a stated difficulty level.

Anyone changing footpegs and their mounting clevises at the same time will find them listed on their own page. The rest of what Biltwell make for us, from helmets to seats, is on the main Biltwell page.
