Full kit, or just the part that wore out?

Most of what's on this page falls into one of two groups: complete styled kits, and the individual wear or service parts that keep a peg already on the bike working. A styled kit is a rider or passenger peg with its own bracket and finish, built under a named style such as Adversary or Dominion. The service parts are smaller and less visible: rubber inserts (50500783), wear pegs (50501135), detent springs, balls and plates (50500706, 50500707, 50500705), a clevis pin (50500702) and a return spring (50500703). If a peg has started to rattle or the rubber's perished, check those small parts first. Not the whole assembly.

Most named styles come as a matched pair, not a single design: Dominion is 50500871 for the rider peg and 50500993 for the passenger, Empire runs 50502339 and 50501830 the same way, and Adversary is 50502255 rider and 50502247 passenger. Buy to the position you're actually fitting, not just the name. The '66 Collection rider peg (50502149) is the retro one on this shelf: in Harley-Davidson's own description, gloss black with brushed aluminium highlights and a brass-coloured medallion styled on a classic tank emblem.

Pegs fold, boards don't

A footpeg is a hinged, spring-loaded part. It's meant to move: fold up on impact, or tuck away when a passenger peg isn't in use, then spring back into place off a detent ball and plate. That's the whole reason this shelf carries detent springs, balls and plates, a clevis pin and a return spring as parts in their own right, not only bundled inside a finished peg. A footboard works nothing like it: a fixed pan bolted to a heel-toe shift and brake bracket, with no equivalent moving parts on its own shelf. It's a different mechanism, not just a different shape, and that's most of why the two ranges barely share a part number between them.

The mount matters as much as the style

Fitment tags on this page cover Breakout, Dyna, Fat Bob, Fat Boy, Heritage, Low Rider, Road Glide, Softail, Street Bob, Street Glide and Touring. Sportster and V-Rod aren't broken out as their own tag here, so check the part number against your bike, or ask. Don't trust the filter for those two.

A peg doesn't bolt straight to the frame. It sits on a bracket, and that bracket is its own fit point, sold separately from the peg: a spacer (50502209 left, 50502208 right), a clevis pin (50500702), or a full mount assembly (50500489A, 50500462A, 50500746, 42651-04, 42652-04). Get the style right and the mount wrong and the peg still won't go on, particularly if you're moving pegs between rider and passenger positions or fitting them to a bike that came with boards. Control position matters too: the same brass wear-peg style is listed twice, once for Mid Controls (50500791) and once for Forward Controls (50500482), because each needs a different bracket. Check the mount and the control position with the parts team before you order; the style name on its own isn't enough to go on.

What else you're likely to need

Converting from factory floorboards is a different job to choosing a peg style. The peg alone isn't enough. Harley-Davidson's own Board-to-Peg Conversion Kit (50501642 for Softail and Touring, 50501640 for Softail) supplies the bracket that makes the swap possible. A highway peg brings its own extra: it fits onto a separate highway-peg or engine-guard mount that isn't in the box. Harley-Davidson's own listing for the Empire Highway pegs (50501895, 50501897) says they fit models using its highway peg mounts and engine guard peg mounts, and adds: "Does not fit '18-later FXDRS and '25-later FLTRXRRSE models." Check which mount your guard takes before you order. Don't assume it will clear. On touring bikes it's also worth thinking about the passenger position specifically: passengers on some models report a fitted passenger peg sitting close enough to catch a calf, which is as much a question for whoever rides pillion as it is for the rider choosing the style.

Do passenger footpegs need to be fitted by law?

Passenger pegs aren't only a comfort choice. Regulation 102 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 says that if a passenger is carried astride a two-wheeled motorcycle on a road, "suitable supports or rests for the feet shall be available on the motor cycle for that person." Police guidance repeats it, alongside a valid licence, insurance and the right helmet. It comes up at the MOT too. The DVSA's motorcycle inspection manual lists "A footrest missing or insecure" as a Major defect. Only a single-seat bike, or one with the pillion seat covered by a cowl at the time of test, is excused pillion footrests. Worth remembering before a passenger peg gets left off for the sake of a cleaner look.

Before you order

A couple of names on this page aren't quite what they look like. Kahuna (50501225, 50501148) is coded on our own system as a "mini footboard" rather than a footpeg — that's Harley-Davidson's own internal naming, not a sign it's on the wrong page or fits any differently to anything else listed here. Mid-Control on a listing describes the control position it's built for, not a named style like Dominion or Switchback, so don't expect to find a matching Mid-Control grip or footboard under that name elsewhere.
