History of Alpinestars

Who are Alpinestars?

Alpinestars, was originally founded in 1963 by Sante Mazzarolo in Asolo, Italy. It is now the worlds leading motorcycle clothing manufacturer specializing in motorsport and action sports apparel, footwear, and protective gear. The company’s name is inspired by the English translation of Stella Alpina, the Italian name for the edelweiss flower, native to the Alps.

Alpinestars was initially focused on crafting durable hiking and ski boots. However, Mazzarolo quickly identified an emerging market in motocross, a sport gaining traction in the 1960s. The brand’s breakthrough came with its innovative motocross boots, blending cutting-edge design, protection, and comfort. These boots gained rapid popularity among professional riders, cementing Alpinestars as a leader in the industry.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Alpinestars expanded into road racing, producing gear for some of the most iconic motorcycle racers, including World Champions Kenny Roberts and Mick Doohan. By the late 20th century, the brand had established a reputation for excellence across various motorsport disciplines, from motocross to MotoGP.

The 2000s marked further progress with the introduction of advanced protective technology, such as the Tech-Air airbag system, revolutionizing rider safety. Alpinestars also expanded into other extreme sports, including mountain biking and auto racing, outfitting athletes like Formula 1 drivers and downhill cyclists.

Alpinestars remains synonymous with innovation, quality, and a commitment to the safety and performance of its customers worldwide.

Iron City Motorcycles is now an official stockist of Alpinestars UK
