Helmet Visors & Parts

The first thing to pin down is which helmet you own, and which generation of it. After that it is mostly a choice of tint.

Everything here is for sale with free UK delivery available. On the UK site many are listed at 10% off RRP or more and show a was-price on the grid; the rest carry a single price.

The Shark, HJC, Harley-Davidson, KTM, MT and Husqvarna helmets we sell take their own visors and their own anti-fog inserts, and none of those spares are on this page. Worth knowing if you are picking a helmet on how easy the spares are to get.

Biltwell's two generations do not swap parts

Biltwell put it plainly on their own product page: "The new R22.06 Gringo S will not work with the old Gringo S shields because the closure has been improved." A current 22.06 Gringo S or SV takes the shields, cheek pads and liner labelled 22.06. The older 22.05 Gringo S takes a different set. Nothing crosses over.

The naming makes that harder than it needs to be. The Gen1 Baseplate Kit and the seven Gen2 Hardware Kits carry fitment lines naming the old 22.05 Gringo S and the old 22.05 Lane Splitter, and nothing newer. The shield named Gringo S Gen-2 is the same story. "Gen" here numbers a revision inside the 22.05 era and has nothing to do with the standard the helmet meets, so if you own the current helmet and search on that word, it is easy to end up with a part for the old one.

The Lane Splitter is simpler, because we only stock the current version. Its four Gen 2 shields, six cheek-pad thicknesses, two liners and chin spoiler all fit it. Biltwell's line on those shields is that they "fit all Lane Splitter models because they ship with an all-new baseplate kit".

Which spare fits which helmet

Cheek pads, and how the thicknesses work

Thickness is how a helmet is tuned once the shell size is right. Biltwell run seven thicknesses, 10mm to 38mm, for the old 22.05 Gringo and Gringo S, five from 10mm to 33mm for the current 22.06 Gringo, Gringo S and Gringo SV, and six from 15mm to 38mm for the Lane Splitter. ROEG's are coarser: four, at 21mm, 26mm, 33mm and 40mm, shared across the RX1 and the Chase and sold in two size bands.

Biltwell's own guidance is to fit thinner pads if the stock set feels tight and thicker ones if it feels loose. The reason they give for so many thicknesses is that the stock pads were tested in a laboratory on a metal crash-test dummy, not on human heads, across a whole size run. They also say never to cut, drill, sand or modify any part of the helmet to change the way it fits.

Peaks and snap-on shields are not the certified visor

The six Moto Peaks fit "all Biltwell and many other helmets with three snaps on the brow", in their own listing's words. The six Bubble Shields fit the "Biltwell Gringo and Bonanza helmets, as well as other helmets with three snaps on the brow". ROEG's four bubble shields do the same job on the Jett and the Jettson, and their supplier text claims "ECE approval" for the shield itself, which is a statement about the polycarbonate and not about a helmet. The five-snap Gringo Blast Shield is a different fitting again and claims no marking of any kind on its own listing. ROEG's peaks split by helmet: four Jett peaks and five translucent ones for the Jett, four Sonny Peak variants for the Peruna 2.0.

What the law says about visors

gov.uk sets a separate rule for eyewear from the one it sets for helmets. If you ride with a visor or goggles, they must meet one of the following:

• a British Standard and display a BSI Kitemark
• UNECE Regulation 22.05
• UNECE Regulation 22.06
• a European standard offering at least the same safety and protection as the British Standard and carry a mark equivalent to the BSI Kitemark

The shields that ship fitted to a helmet carry the maker's own claim. The Biltwell Gringo S is described with a "CE certified anti-scratch and anti-fog visor", the Lane Splitter with a "clear anti-fog and anti-scratch CE-certified shield", the ROEG Chase as "CE-certified incl the polycarbonate anti-scratch and anti-fog visor". Some replacement shields sold here state no marking of their own and some name one in the title, so read the individual listing. DOT is not one of the standards on the gov.uk list above. Odd ones on this page

A Bonanza liner, and a Bubble Shield whose own text names the "Biltwell Gringo and Bonanza", both point at a Biltwell helmet we do not sell. Some ICON spares do the same with ICON helmets we do not sell, among them the Variant and Variant Pro, the Alliance and Alliance GT, and the Airmada. The Jett Translucent Peak names the Skull Bucket, a real ROEG line we do not stock either; it fits the Jett just the same. And a Biltwell shop banner is here because its name contains the word Shield. That one is a printed garage sign.

Spare lenses for the Moto 2.0, Overland and Peruna goggles are filed here rather than with the goggles themselves, because a lens is a replacement part. There is one Exfil helmet bag here as well.
