Motorcycle Helmets

Nine makes on this grid, and they are not consistent with each other. The standard on the listing, the head measurement behind the size letter and the firm that actually built the helmet all vary line by line.

Every one of the 114 is for sale with free UK delivery available. Fifty-eight are listed at 10% off RRP and show a was-price on the grid. Another 40 carry a smaller was-price and 16 carry none. Check what each one actually shows.

What each listing states about the standard

gov.uk states that all helmets worn on UK roads must meet one of the following:

• British Standard BS 6658:1985 and carry the BSI Kitemark
• UNECE Regulation 22.05
• UNECE Regulation 22.06
• a European Economic Area member standard offering at least the same safety and protection as BS 6658:1985, and carry a mark equivalent to the BSI Kitemark

Our own listings do not all say the same thing. 101 of the 114 show a string from the 22.06 family, punctuated differently by every supplier who sends it to us: "ECE R22.06" on the Biltwell Gringo, the shorter "ECE 06" on the Lane Splitter, "ECE-R22.06" on the ROEG Jett, "ECE 22/06" on the RX1, "UNECE 22-06" on the Shark D-Skwal 3, and "Meets or exceeds ECE 22.06 approved" on the HJC V10 and V60.

Three of those 101 are hedged in the maker's own words. The Harley-Davidson Achromatic and both Classic #1 three-quarter listings state "Intended certification to ECE 22-06 requirements". That is not a claim that it has passed. One Capstone Sun Shield II colourway says only "DOT & ECE Approved", with no version.

Twelve listings state no standard at all: five of the fourteen Harley-Davidson lids, both Husqvarnas, three of the five KTMs, one HJC colourway and one of the three MT listings. One of the five has the wrong text altogether. It repeats the sun-visor bullet where the certification should be. The maker sometimes publishes it even where our listing does not. Airoh, who build the Husqvarna Spark 2, state "ECE 2206 approved" on their own page for it. If the standard matters to your decision, ask us before ordering.

Open face, full face, and the four that need goggles

The Biltwell Gringo is an open shell with a bare eye port and three snaps on the brow. ROEG's Jett and Jettson 2.0 are open face with a removable peak. Nothing sits in front of your eyes on any of them, so you will need a snap-on shield or a pair of goggles as well, and the shields are on the helmet visors and parts page. ROEG's Sundown is worn open with an internal visor you flip down, and the Harley-Davidson X14 three-quarter listings describe a retractable internal sun shield behind the same open front.

Full face is the largest group: Biltwell's Gringo S, Gringo SV and Lane Splitter, ROEG's RX1, Peruna 2.0 and Chase, every Shark line, and Harley-Davidson's Division X15, Brawler X09 and Velo H34. The Capstone Sun Shield II and Evo X17 listings describe modular helmets. The chin bar lifts. Four are off-road lids with a peak and no visor, worn with goggles bought separately: the KTM Stryker, Wraaap and Wraaap Kids, and the Husqvarna MX 9 Mips. An anti-fog insert is the other thing people end up buying separately. Seven listings state one is included: the KTM Breaker Evo, the KTM Matryx, the Husqvarna Spark 2, the HJC F71 and I91, and both Shark D-Skwal 3 colours. Twelve more describe the visor as ready for one, which is not the same as one being in the box. That is seven Shark Ridill 2 listings, three HJC and two MT. The sixth HJC listing, the V60, says neither.

Size letters do not match across makes

Three of the makers here publish a head-circumference chart, and the bands do not line up.

An HJC large is a centimetre smaller than a Shark or a ROEG large, and it stays that way in the bigger sizes. Shark's instruction is to measure "about 2 cm above the eyebrows, passing just above the ears and around the back of the skull", and to take the smaller size if you fall between two, because the foam compresses with use. Biltwell publish no chart at all, and warn that the centimetre figure on the tag inside the lid is the helmet's interior circumference, not a head measurement. ROEG's Jettson runs about a centimetre narrower than the rest of their range, and their RX1 has no published figures anywhere.

Who actually builds these helmets

Nine of the fourteen Harley-Davidson listings name the firm that built the helmet: Scorpion, or Kido Sports, on the X14 and X15 lines, and HJC on the Capstone and the Velo H34. Husqvarna's listing for the MX 9 says it is "Made exclusively for Husqvarna Motorcycles by BELL". The Spark 2 is Airoh's too, and KTM's Matryx listing says the same.

It matters if you want to look up a SHARP rating. SHARP is the government's rating scheme, and it files a helmet under the firm that built it rather than the badge on it. KTM and Husqvarna are not in SHARP's manufacturer list at all. As of 6 September 2026, three lines here carry a SHARP rating for the version we sell: the MT Braker SV at five stars, the Airoh-built Spark 2 at five, and the Shark Ridill 2 at four, all tested to 22.06. The D-Skwal 3 and the Skwal i3 have no entry of their own, only their predecessors, and those were 22.05 helmets. Biltwell have one entry, a Lane Splitter tested in August 2021, and that was the outgoing 22.05 shell too. ROEG have none.

Warranty

Shark's site states a five-year warranty on all helmets. HJC's covers "manufacturing defects for up to 3 years from the date of purchase or 5 years from the date of manufacture, whichever comes first". Biltwell's is a "Limited Two-Year Warranty" from the date of purchase. We could not find anything published for ROEG, KTM, Husqvarna or MT.

Two things here get bought twice: a helmet ordered on the size letter when the chart you used works to different centimetres, and whatever goes in front of your eyes.
