YSS Motorcycle Rear Mono Shocks
YSS rear mono shocks for Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Triumph, Suzuki, Kawasaki and other motorcycles, each sold as a single shock. Most are MZ456 emulsion gas shocks with threaded spring preload and rebound adjustment, many with length adjustment too, in coded lengths from 265 to 495 mm. Every title gives the YSS code, the length and the bike.
The shocks on this page
MZ456: the main YSS mono shock on this page. YSS lists Z as an emulsion gas shock and 456 as a 45 mm piston with a 16 mm shaft. Most carry TR or TRL in the code: threaded preload and rebound, with length adjustment where the L is present.
MZ366: the same emulsion gas type with a 36 mm piston and a 16 mm shaft.
ME302 Eco Line: the Eco Line version with threaded preload.
MG456: what YSS calls a top external reservoir piggyback gas shock, each with high and low speed compression adjustment, the W in the code.
Reading the YSS code
YSS publishes a product code key, and the code in every title follows it. The three digits after the first dash are what YSS calls the length of the shock, in millimetres. The letters after the length are the adjusters: P or T for step or threaded spring preload, R for rebound, C for compression and L or J for length adjustment. YSS does not say how the length is measured, so compare it with the shock fitted now.

Each title names the make and, where there is room, the models the part is listed for. The Fitment section on the listing gives every model and year. Check the year range as well as the model name, and compare the length in the code with the shock on your bike now.
What does length adjustment do?
Where the code carries L, YSS lists length adjustment of plus or minus 5 mm, and J means plus 10 mm. Changing the shock length raises or lowers the rear of the bike, so compare the coded length with the shock fitted now before you change it.
