Motorcycle Fork Springs
Fork springs sit inside the front fork legs. Öhlins makes linear springs to suit the type of bike, the rider's weight and personal preference, and Progressive Suspension makes progressive rate springs. This page carries fork springs and spring kits from makers including Öhlins and Progressive Suspension, each titled with the bikes it is listed for.
Linear or progressive rate
Öhlins offers a range of linear springs for installation in the standard front fork, and says its manufacturing keeps the spring rate within 1.5%. Progressive Suspension describes its progressive rate springs as having a rising rate resistance to compression, so the spring is soft at the start of the travel and firmer further in.
Öhlins supplies its NIX 30 Street cartridge kits without springs, so the springs are chosen separately by rate to suit the rider.
Reading the listings
Many Öhlins titles give the rate in N/mm, for example 9.5 N/mm. Some Öhlins springs are made for its own cartridge kits, and the product description names the kit. The Öhlins fork springs page carries road, Road & Track and off-road springs. The Progressive Suspension springs here are for Harley-Davidson, Indian Scout, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and BMW models.
Springs are often changed with the oil: see Öhlins fork oil and fork cartridge kits.
Will it fit my bike?
Each listing is titled with the bikes it is listed for. Check the exact model and year on the product page, and check the rate you need, before ordering.
Do I need new fork oil as well?
Öhlins gives a recommended oil and an oil level on its fork spring pages, with the level measured with the fork fully compressed and without the spring and preload tube. Öhlins fork oils are on our Öhlins fork oil page.
