Progressive Suspension 412 Series Motorcycle Shocks
Progressive Suspension 412 Series twin shocks for the Harley-Davidson Sportster, Dyna, Touring, FXR and Softail, plus Honda, Kawasaki and Triumph models. They come in black or chrome, with or without covers, in standard and heavy-duty spring rates and lengths from 11 to 14.25 inches. Every title gives the length, finish and rate.
What the 412 Series is
Progressive calls the 412 its value shock. It describes doublewall steel body construction with nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving, and a five-position cam-style preload adjuster.
Standard or heavy-duty
The 412 comes with a standard or a heavy-duty progressive spring. Progressive recommends the heavy-duty rate for riders of 250 lbs or more, or who ride two-up more than half the time, and says which rates are offered varies by bike. Both rates are listed here for the Sportster and the Dyna.
Length
The 412 is listed here in 11, 11.5, 12, 12.5, 13, 13.5 and 14.25 inch lengths. A shorter shock lowers the rear of the bike, and Progressive warns that a longer than stock shock needs wheel travel clearance checked. Replacement shock springs for the 412 are on the all-brands shock springs page.

Will it fit my motorcycle?
Each title names the motorcycle the part is listed for, with the years where the supplier gives them. Where a part fits more models than the title can hold, it says so, and the Fitment section on the listing gives every model and year. Check the year range as well as the model name, and the shock length against the shocks on your bike now.
Can I change the preload myself?
Yes. The 412 Series has a five-position cam preload adjuster, which Progressive describes on its 412 page. Progressive preload spanners are on the suspension tools page, and each listing says which shocks it suits.
